Joel's Fan Fiction draft

Not yet a draft but an idea of what I will be writing about.
The short will be based on the Agent Cooper character of the Twin Peaks series, and may include verbal cassette diary entries to his secretary Diane as per the program, along with traditional narrative.
As yet undecided on exactly where and in what part of the plot I will enter into the universe, some reminder watching may well be in order!

Enter scene in the Double R Diner, Coop orders a long cup of Joe, black and aromatic as ever from Shelly Johnson. She perhaps offers today's pie still steaming from the oven.
Coop declines, until Norma comes through with some freshly whipped cream before leaving on her regular meals on wheels route.
Coop, sitting in a corner booth much larger than needed for his party of one, is speaking to Diane into the microphone, recalling an odd dream of Audrey Horne in the place of Laura Palmer, small waves from the lake lapping onto the plastic in which she is wrapped in.
Floating above the steamy surface of the lake, toes painted red leaving a wake, and a break in the steam in which he reflection is warped. Warped to create some sense of abnormality, describe image in a manner that brings terror, or perhaps a feeling a little more subtle.
He hypothesizes that there is some form of danger related to the girl, and post recording surmises there is in fact something wrong, a dangerous palpable tension in the air.
Without actually alluding to Audrey's infatuation with Coop, somehow through the depiction of the dream show that she is, and he is, becoming unintentionally involved. I do not wish to develop this idea further, as there are plenty of references to this in the original series, but think it could be an interesting piece of prose.

Perhaps start with the offer of pie, then recollection into microphone, then after some period of reflection on this, ask Norma/Shelly for a piece after all.

As the sun rises slowly but surely over the redwoods surrounding Twin Peaks, the mist begins to shrink, lower and deeper into the town's rich earth. It is here in Twin Peaks that the esoteric reigns supreme, and where a secret lies beneath each fallen pine cone that litters the forest.
Special Agent Dale Cooper has arrived on this autumn morning to investigate the appearance of a local girl who was shrouded in a polyethylene wrapper, and discarded as a diabetic would a candy bar having purchased and thought the better. She has washed up on the shores of the lake, and is creating quite the commotion in this normally slow paced, comfortable town.
It is this very morning a grey-eyed special agent alights from a newly polished silver bullet of a greyhound.

Into his pocket dictaphone, Coop records a message for his personal assistant:
"Diane, it is 6.38am and I have, after a lengthy and arduous journey found myself at my destination," The agent pauses to scan the township of Twin Peaks, to take in it's beauty and gauge the quality of the 1930's architecture before continuing; "It seems that this onerous journey was all the worth it, this town's beauty is something else, and I feel although working on a mission, that this place is just the ticket to rejuvenate my soul of it's city life's languor. My first move before visiting the crime scene, will be to enjoy my first cup of joe. I sincerely hope that it will meet the level of deliciousness that the view before me brings."
Coop returns the loan of the dictaphone back to his ever faithful friend his pocket and in no particular hurry, with his chin high and grin wide, lends his gravity through the streets in search of a warm and caffeinated beverage.

A few blocks South West in the Double'R'Diner, Norma and Shelly are considering the day's pie options, wondering if there should be a sweet version, sweet version and sweet version, or perhaps; sweet, sweet, and a savory version.
They opt for the former, Shelly rolling the pastry while norma works on reduction of the cherry, blueberry and berry berry compotes for the fillers.
A rattling of the lids of pots a bubbling welcomes Agent Cooper into the Diner with a honeyed aroma steaming in the direction of his entry.
Norma, spotting the entrance of the handsome stranger in a trench coat, acknowledges his entry- "Good mornin', might you be interested in one of our famous breakfast stacks?" Shelly to the rear of the kitchen leans/lends(?) her face towards this first customer of the day to inspect the newcomer with a shy smile.
"Why thank you Ma'am," Coop, in his ever polite fashion, is now itching for that first coffee for the day and manages politeness
"Norma, please."
"Why thank you Norma, I would be delighted to try this stack of yours at another time but this morning my stop is brief, it is a sample of your finest cup of joe that I am in need of."
"Shelly," Norma leans away from the counter without averting her gaze from the eyes of the Agent, "A big good morning cup of our finest for the gentleman here."
"Of course Norma." Chirpy as ever, Shelly breaks the seal of the thermo for the day.
"What might bring you to Twin Peaks Mr...?"
"Special Agent Dale Cooper at your service, Mrs...?"
"Mrs Norma Jennings, owner of the Double R Diner."
"Might I say Mrs Norma Jennings, that this here is one of the finest diners that I've seen in some time. A joy to behold."
Norma hesitates before her response, and is now grinning through her eyes at the formality he is using "Thank you sir, might you be in town for long?"
"I sincerely hope not Norma, in my line of work the shorter in a place the better."
"Oh?"
"Tis a sad case when an agent has too much time in one location, it is representative of the solving of the issue taking too long."
"Well then," A downward/s gaze and flicking of (her) apron, "May your visit be speedy, and your coffee be acceptable Agent Cooper."
"From my impressions of you diner thus far Norma, I would find it impossible to believe it would be anything less than. Thank you."
Gripping the tall white mug with both hands, Agent Cooper brings the steaming coffee to his face, with eyes closing in unison with his hands approach. Still shut-eyed, Coop takes a tentative sip before declaring: "Now that is one very fine coffee indeed!" to nobody in particular, then continues into the large 10 berth booth towards the front of the diner.

It is here that Coop produces a case dossier, sitting with one/a mug in one hand, one/a page in his second hand, surrounded by an incredibly large space unfit for a man on his own. It is as this comparison that The Special Agent is walking into Twin Peaks for (while?) the investigation (ing) this murder, one man in a colossal town, with a population count of just fifty-thousand.
After finishing his cup, he reclines into the red leather of the booth and closes his eyes to catch some well needed rest for just a moment.

A heavy mist envelopes the town, gorging on the town's streets and buildings. It seeps from the depths of the forest, where those in between worlds exist for their own reasons.
The lake in front of Agent Dale Cooper speeds wide and glass like, partially viewable through the fog that is rolling ever closer.
The image of a woman comes to Dale's mind, floating above the surface, with arms spread open as though calling an embrace. She is in a sheer mourning dress, bridal in cut, and touches not the water below her.
The Agent attempts to see through her veil, but nothing is clear. The closest to understanding her impression comes in the form of a wake-moddled reflection of her face. It seems to be frightened, perhaps not for herself, her eyes depict a disconnection from that which she means to warn of.
Cooper feebly tries to get up from the pebbly shore only to crash back where his useless legs have bought him to. He wishes for her to arrive, to find him and offer those condolences, but her approach does not seem to lessen in distance. He cries out "Laura!?", and finds the ghostly figure turning to abandon him. He is transfixed on the space between her soil covered bare toes and the water's surface, unable to move his deadweight appendages he remembers as his arms and legs.

Perhaps at this stage of the story, incorporate some part of Cooper's beginning of study of Steiner's Anthoposophy, and let him 'fall' into a moment of contemplative rest before being approached with the vision, maybe not of Audrey as mentioned above in the initial planning stages (i.e scratch love interest from the FF), but of Laura Palmer, who has been murdered. Create some tension through description of the warped reflection still, add some sound effects into the recollection/description of the image that reaches him.

  1. Seems like I am not quite adhering to my planning of this FF!
I will endeavour to bring some of the interesting ideas in the plan into this draft before polishing next week I guess.
Keep checking in and if you are enjoying this, enjoyed the canon, or are even hating this draft- Please let me know.

  2. Seems nobody wants to comment on any of my ideas? Or drafts?
    No drama! I will:
Joel, I think I like where you are going with this from the outline you gave at the beginning of this entry, however it seems like you've gone a little off track.
Start by pulling in some of the first paragraph, reducing some of the dialogue at the diner, then get into the dream sequence already!

  3. Hey, sup Joel
I looked up "Twin peak" on google before I started reading your blog, as I have never watched that TV serial drama before. Now that I have little idea, I think this is a great story. Love the descriptive words you have used, it brings mystery to the audience. ie: ghostly figure and a lot more....it also brings tension and creates a visual image in readers' mind. Especially with you ways of writing and languages used, it takes me back to the 90's, when this drama was boardcasted.
